A Couple of Random StumbleUpon Traffic Tips

- Lauren

It’s a hot day and the weekend. Time for a couple of random StumbleUpon traffic tips.

Send StumbleUpon Traffic to Referrers

If your website is mentioned in a high-quality article on another website or blog, why not thumbs up that article?

  • It’s a nice way to say thanks to the author.
  • If it’s a well-written article, it will probably do well and will, in turn, increase the number of visits you get from the mention.
  • Some of the referred visitors may thumbs up your web page.

High quality is important here. You could just thumbs up anyone who mentions you—but if the article isn’t interesting, stumbling it probably won’t provide a traffic benefit.

Miscategorized on StumbleUpon?

If one of your articles is incorrectly categorized, it can kill your StumbleUpon traffic before it even gets started. You can report a miscategorization, but I’ve never seen them change a category.

However, if you can submit the miscategorized page to StumbleUpon advertising for approval under the new category, and they’ll change the category to the one you specified once approved (I’ve seen it take 30 minutes, also seen it take four days).

  • Your web page must pass their Content Guidelines for this to work. The regulations aren’t particularly strict, mostly limiting sites that host illegal or restricted categories of content (or that refer to StumbleUpon—this article, for instance, wouldn’t pass the guidelines).
  • You don’t have to give them financial information to submit a site for approval, so this won’t cost you anything.
