Actually, I was talking about setInterval(), which looks to be identical to .periodical()

Fizzbanger: There are quite a few things simplified by using hash, check out the docs: http://mootools.net/docs/core/Native/Hash

This was only meant as an intro to the idea, you are right, there are of course many places where using native javascript will suffice.

Regarding the above question with periodical, setTimeout says "do something after X period of time" whereas periodical says "do something every X periods of time."

Hope that helps.

Also, how is declaring a Hash any different from declaring things in object notation?

var stuff = {
'thing1' : 'value',
'thing2' : 'value',
'thing3' : 'value'
}

Why do I need to use .set() and .get() when I can access the values with stuff.thing1 etc?

The functions .periodical() and $clear() don't appear any different to javascript's native setInterval() and clearInterval().

Why does Mootools include these functions, unless they have some enhanced properties you are not telling us about?
